The Center for Trauma Response, Recovery and Preparedness is a collaborative initiative of four Partner Agencies; The University of Connecticut Health Center, Department of Psychiatry and Yale University, School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Yale Child Study Center in partnership with the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Department of Children and Families.

The CTRP:

  • Provides clinical, educational and scientific expertise to enhance the capacity of Connecticut’s behavioral health system to promote the safety and recovery of people affected by disasters and their continuing aftermath.

  • Prepares behavioral health providers to safely and effectively meet the needs of people affected by critical incident trauma in the immediate and long-term aftermath through training and technical assistance.

  • Currently is working with the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Department of Children and Families to develop an organized network of behavioral health providers across Connecticut through the formation of regional behavioral health response teams.

  • Currently is working with these teams to reach out to public health and emergency response teams, fire, police, health providers, schools, clergy and others to systematically address local behavioral health needs in times of crisis.

  • Will assist in the coordination of disaster-trained behavioral health providers to support ICS operations in critical incidents.

  • Will assist with behavioral health surveillance.

  • Will provide ongoing public education regarding stress and behavioral health promotion.
